Hoxha in Rome: Water challenges require regional cooperation and sustainable investment

The Minister of Environment and Physical Planning (MMJPH), Muamet Hoxha, took part in the Second Ministerial Meeting on Water of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), held in Rome. According to a statement from MMJPH, during the meeting he underscored the importance of regional cooperation in the face of the severe consequences of climate change.

The meeting, attended by representatives of Euro-Mediterranean countries, focused on issues including droughts, floods and pollution. Hoxha stressed that these challenges require joint measures and coordination among states sharing transboundary river basins, since the use of shared resources also entails shared responsibilities.

In his speech, the minister said that water resources should be managed through an integrated approach rather than addressed separately. He added that modern development is closely linked to the use of digitalization.

Hoxha said that, as part of the European integration process, national policies are being diligently aligned with European standards. Among the key priorities, he highlighted improving wastewater treatment and strengthening resilience to climate change.
