House Arrest Lifted for Two Doctors Suspected of Bribery

The Basic Court in Mitrovica has decided to terminate the house arrest of two doctors, V.R. and E.S., who are under investigation on suspicion of the criminal offence of accepting bribes.

According to a written response the court sent to kp, the decision was issued on July 10, 2026. The Basic Prosecution Office in Mitrovica had not submitted a request to extend the measure or replace it with another measure.

“The Basic Court in Mitrovica, acting ex officio and pursuant to Article 181, paragraphs 1 and 7, in conjunction with Article 188, paragraph 1, of Criminal Procedure Code No. 08/L-032, issued a ruling on July 10, 2026, terminating the house arrest measure for defendants V.R. and E.S.,” the Court said in its response.

The Court stressed that reasonable suspicion remains against the two suspects that they committed the criminal offence of “Accepting Bribes” under the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo.

Meanwhile, the Basic Prosecution Office in Mitrovica said it had not sought an extension of house arrest because the legal conditions for submitting such a request no longer existed.

According to the Prosecution, all necessary witnesses and defendants have been interviewed at this stage of the proceedings, including the individuals against whom proceedings were conducted in connection with the criminal offence of giving bribes.

However, an indictment has not yet been filed, as several other necessary procedural actions are still expected to be carried out.

The Prosecution said that V.R. is being investigated over six suspected cases of accepting bribes, while E.S. is being investigated over three such cases.

In its explanation, the Prosecution also said that E.S. had previously been under house arrest from January 10 to February 9, 2023, in connection with another criminal case. In that case, on July 30, 2024, the Prosecution filed an indictment against him for the criminal offence of “Accepting Bribes”, which is pending before the Basic Court in Mitrovica.

The two doctors from Vushtrri General Hospital were arrested by Kosovo Police on May 13, 2026, on suspicion of the criminal offence of “Accepting Bribes”. The case continues to be investigated by the Basic Prosecution Office in Mitrovica.
