Haradinaj: Kurti Seeks to Control All Posts While Aiming to Weaken the Opposition

Ramush Haradinaj, former leader of AAK, has said that the election results did not give the winning party the numbers needed to govern alone. According to him, for this reason, decision-making must be shared among political entities.

Speaking to the media, Haradinaj stated that acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has so far not proposed a division of decision-making. He said the opposition has only been offered the chance to join the government.

“The citizen voted, the people voted, and today we are elected MPs. This result implies co-decision-making, meaning shared decision-making. The winning party was not given a sufficient majority,” Haradinaj said.

Haradinaj also assessed that, based on the election result, one of the two most important state posts, prime minister or president, should be entrusted to the opposition.

“The prime minister is the main post, as he leads the government, while the president constitutes one of the two main posts of the state. Based on the result, one of these two posts belongs to the opposition. If the result is read with democratic logic, this is the right way to understand it. But if it is read with regime logic, as Kurti is doing, then shared decision-making is not sought,” he stated.

According to the former AAK leader, Kurti aims to keep all key posts for himself, while viewing the opposition only as part of the executive.

He emphasized that the opposition can contribute to the formation of institutions, but this should not be limited only to its inclusion in the government.

“I don’t believe the opposition helps Kosovo only by becoming part of the Kurti government for power gains. It can help Kosovo if it is included in decision-making. The Alliance does not aim simply for power benefits, but if we are given a role to help Kosovo, then we are ready,” Haradinaj said.
