Hamza questions whether LVV and LDK will have full support for Sejdiu, rules out PDK votes

Democratic Party of Kosovo leader Bedri Hamza has commented on the new agreement between the Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo to nominate Bekim Sejdiu as a candidate for president, expressing doubts about whether they will manage to secure the necessary majority.

In a statement to KosovaPress, Hamza said that although the two parties mathematically have enough votes, it remains to be seen whether all their representatives will attend the session and support the candidacy. He stressed that this is an internal matter for those political entities.

Speaking about the lengthy negotiation process, Hamza stressed that the PDK has no specific position on the candidate because he was not proposed by them. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that Mr. Sejdiu is a figure they know and whose previous engagement they appreciate. Hamza explained that his party had insisted on a comprehensive political agreement, but the issue of the president had not been on the negotiating table, and that the PDK would continue its opposition role in the Assembly, offering criticism and alternatives, but also support for initiatives of national interest.

Regarding the possibility that a PDK deputy might vote for Sejdiu, Hamza was unequivocal. He said he was confident in the unity of his parliamentary group and did not expect any deviation from the party’s official positions. He reaffirmed that the PDK would not be part of the formation of institutions, except in the case of the position of deputy speaker.

Today, LVV and LDK reached a consensus on Bekim Sejdiu’s name for the post of president of Kosovo. Meanwhile, the Assembly of Kosovo has still not been constituted. The previous two attempts failed because the Assembly speaker was not elected, thereby blocking the completion of the process for the 11th Legislature.

The constitutive session remains at the center of clashes between the parliamentary parties, and the failure to establish the institutions is deepening the political crisis. Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has called for more time to negotiate a political solution that would enable the formation of the new institutions. On the other hand, the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Alliance are continuing their actions to force the holding of the constitutive session.
