Hamza Opposes Sejdiu’s Election: It Would Not Be a Good Start for a Unifying President

The chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza, said that Bekim Sejdiu, if elected president, should be a unifying figure, but according to him, the way the process has begun is not positive.

Hamza told KosovaPress that the PDK will not support the candidate proposed by the Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo.

“Our position remains unchanged. The PDK is not part of this agreement and will not vote for Mr. Sejdiu as president,” he said.

According to the head of the PDK, Bekim Sejdiu has so far had no contact or meeting with the party to seek support for the presidential post.

“There has been neither communication nor discussion. If elected, he should fulfill the role of a unifying president, but the beginning is not good,” Hamza declared.

Asked whether he would meet with Sejdiu to receive assurances that he would act as a unifying president, Hamza said that such a meeting would now be too late.

“It is already too late,” he concluded.

The Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo agreed on August 31 on Bekim Sejdiu’s candidacy as a consensus president.

The LDK is expected to review his name within the party’s internal structures today. Meanwhile, yesterday several of its figures, including Avdullah Hoti, spoke out against Sejdiu’s candidacy for president.

According to the LVV, disagreement over the election of the president has meant that the Assembly of Kosovo has still not been constituted following the parliamentary elections of June 7.
