Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Donika Gërvalla met with Austria’s ambassador to Kosovo, Georg Schnetzer, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in justice, strengthening international legal cooperation and advancing institutional reforms.
During the discussion, the minister emphasized that justice reform is a decisive process for transforming the system, increasing the integrity of institutions and ensuring accountability before the law.

The issues she raised included establishing and operationalizing the Bureau, implementing the vetting process, advancing the package of draft laws on justice reform, and completing civil legislation.
“Establishing and operationalizing the Bureau, putting the vetting process into practice, advancing the package of draft laws on justice reform and finalizing civil legislation are essential parts of this daily commitment to build stronger institutions, ensure genuine accountability and demonstrate that no one, regardless of name, position or power, is above the law,” Gërvalla said.
The meeting also addressed the completion of the Agreement with Austria on Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters. According to Gërvalla, finalizing it would mark an important step toward strengthening international legal cooperation.
“I also emphasized the importance of finalizing the Agreement with Austria on Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters, as an important step in strengthening international legal cooperation, particularly in the areas of extradition, mutual legal assistance and the transfer of sentenced persons,” Gërvalla said.
The minister praised Austria’s role as an important partner for Kosovo in the reform process and in strengthening justice institutions.
“Deepening cooperation between our institutions helps strengthen state capacities, advance reforms and consolidate a justice system that guarantees the rule of law, institutional integrity and accountability before the law,” Minister Gërvalla concluded.
