Geci on the PDK’s demands: Vote for president linked to defense funds

Former LDK MP Gani Geci has commented on the PDK’s latest demands for supporting the election of the president and providing legal defense for four former KLA members convicted in The Hague.

In a Facebook post, Geci addressed his friends, saying that after reviewing these demands, he had concluded that the PDK aimed to obtain additional funds from the Government of Kosovo in exchange for its vote for the president.

According to him, the PDK is not concerned about what happened in The Hague. He argues that the party’s lawyers know that overturning the verdicts on appeal requires evidence that disproves those of the Basic Court.

Geci claims that the PDK is offering Albin Kurti support for electing Glauk Konjufca as president, on the condition that the government allocate additional taxpayer money to the existing fund. According to him, these funds are being requested in the name of appealing and lobbying against the verdict, beyond the amounts permitted under the law on defense adopted in 2015. He adds that, ultimately, they believe Konjufca would have the right to pardon those convicted by the Specialist Chambers.

The former MP says it remains to be seen whether the government will give the PDK money to secure the election of an LVV president, or whether it will elect a candidate proposed by the LDK without payment.

According to Geci, the Republic of Kosovo has three options by October 6, 2026: give the PDK the money so that the party votes for the LVV candidate; elect the candidate proposed by the LDK without giving taxpayer money to either the LDK or the PDK; or hold snap elections.

Regarding the third possibility, he claims that elections would cost around 20 million euros and that the LVV would also distribute around 200 million euros in additional social assistance, which he calls “vitra,” to buy votes for the fourth time within two years.
