Gaza: Over 900 killed this year, including 301 children, despite ceasefire

The latest data from the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry shows that more than 900 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip this year, despite a ceasefire agreement being in force between Israel and Hamas.

The ministry states that since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, the total number of Palestinians killed has exceeded 1,300. Among the victims are 301 children.

The ceasefire was reached after Israel and Hamas accepted US President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan. The document provided for the cessation of all military operations, including airstrikes and artillery shelling.

Despite the agreement, figures published by the Gaza Health Ministry indicate that deadly attacks have continued even after the ceasefire.

April, May, June, July, and August saw high casualty numbers. In each of these months, more than 100 people were reported killed.

July was the month with the highest number of casualties this year, with 152 killed, among them 21 children.

Meanwhile, during the remaining days of October after the ceasefire began, the ministry reported 251 victims.

BBC Verify has examined dozens of video clips showing the aftermath of strikes in several parts of Gaza. Documented locations include a beachside café, tents where displaced people are staying, and a funeral procession in central Gaza.

The Gaza Health Ministry attributes these casualties directly to Israeli military operations. However, its statistics do not differentiate between civilians and combatants.

Israel has disputed the ministry’s figures, while the United Nations considers them reliable. Experts consulted by BBC Verify have also said their independent analyses align with the data published by the ministry.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) rejects these figures and says there is no basis to assume that all persons listed lost their lives as a result of actions by Israeli forces.

The IDF states it carries out focused operations to neutralize threats and protect its troops and Israeli civilians, while respecting the ceasefire agreement. The Israeli military adds that it takes steps to minimize harm to civilians.
