Gashi Receives UNMIK Delegation, Recruitment Process for New Prosecutors to Open Soon

Arian Gashi, Chair of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC), together with council members Arlinda Muqa, Visar Krasniqi and Milot Krasniqi, today received Milbert Domgjon Shin, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), and representatives of the UNMIK Office.

The talks were held in a spirit of cooperation and focused on the current situation within the prosecutorial system, strengthening the rule of law and continuing interinstitutional coordination with international partners.

During the meeting, Gashi briefed the UNMIK delegation on the new composition of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council and the completion of the procedure for selecting the new Chief State Prosecutor. He underscored the need for the institutions of the prosecutorial system to become fully operational.

The discussions also addressed the KPC’s continued commitment to ensuring an inclusive prosecutorial system, in which the fair representation of all communities remains among its institutional priorities. Gashi announced that the recruitment process for new prosecutors would open soon, with the aim of advancing their fair representation in the country’s prosecutorial system.

Referring to international cooperation, the KPC Chair thanked UNMIK for the continuous support it has provided to Kosovo over the years, particularly in the field of justice. According to him, this support has played an important role in establishing and consolidating justice institutions.

Gashi also reaffirmed the Prosecutorial Council’s commitment to respecting international obligations and standards. He stressed that, with the assistance of international partners, Kosovo has established an advanced legal framework, while the Council will continue working to further strengthen the rule of law through professionalism, integrity, impartiality and accountability.

For his part, Milbert Domgjon Shin, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, praised the role and work of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council in ensuring an independent and efficient prosecutorial system. He stated that UNMIK values the Council’s commitment and the work of the State Prosecutor, expressing confidence that institutional responsibility and professional dedication would enable continued action to strengthen the rule of law and public trust in the justice system.

In closing, the UNMIK delegation once again confirmed its readiness to continue supporting the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council and justice institutions, with the aim of advancing reforms and further strengthening the rule of law in the country.
