For the First Time Since the Pandemic, China Misses Growth Target; Instability in Iran Hits Global Economy

For the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic period, China has failed to meet its economic growth target. In the second quarter of the year, the country’s economy expanded by 4.3%, below forecasts of 4.5%.

Data released by the National Bureau of Statistics point to the serious difficulties facing the Chinese economy. Two main factors are weighing on the situation: weak domestic consumption on the one hand and uncertainty caused by developments in the Middle East on the other.

The International Monetary Fund has sounded the alarm, stressing that an escalation of the conflict in the Middle East risks prolonging turmoil in energy markets, disrupting supply chains and putting pressure on the global economy as a whole.

Meanwhile, the clash between the United States and Iran has added to instability in international markets. Rising energy costs and supply disruptions resulting from tensions in the Strait of Hormuz are also being reflected in the performance of the Chinese economy.

According to expert assessments, the export sector continues to serve as a pillar of support for the economy, but its expansion is being hampered by several domestic factors: insufficient demand from domestic consumers, declining investment flows into real estate and the weakening of the construction industry.

Analysts note that China remains dependent on exports of advanced technology products, such as semiconductors, computer equipment, batteries and electric vehicles. However, this strong reliance on foreign markets makes the economy more vulnerable to global fluctuations and events.

Despite the slowdown, the Chinese government aims to stimulate consumption and support the economy through new measures. Industry specialists expect targeted interventions to stabilize growth in the coming months.
