Fire contained after eight hours in Lug of Lakra, difficult intervention in Qukës, Prrenjas

After around eight hours of intensive efforts, the firefighting service managed to contain the fire that broke out around midday on Sunday in the Lug of Lakra area, part of the Qukës Administrative Unit in the Municipality of Prrenjas.

The flames were spotted around 12:00 and initially affected approximately 0.5 hectares covered with beech trees, dry grass and deadwood. The difficult terrain and the amount of dry material increased the risk that the fire could spread over a larger area.

Six employees of the Prrenjas firefighting service were immediately involved in the operation, equipped with the vehicles and equipment necessary for the intervention. The operation was carried out in cooperation with the Elbasan Protected Areas Administration, while water was supplied by truck.

The teams worked without interruption from 12:00 to 20:00, operating in difficult conditions to prevent the flames from advancing and to control the remaining active fire spots.

The Prrenjas firefighting service announced that, in the late evening hours, the fire had expanded, but the efforts of the forces on the ground enabled the fire to be fully contained, and it currently poses no risk of spreading further.

Although the situation has been brought under control, the services are continuing to monitor the area to prevent the fire spots from reigniting. Attention remains heightened because dry grass and forest material, in high temperatures, facilitate the spread of fires.
