Fire on Qukës Mountain: Firefighters Contain Four Hotspots After 12 Hours of Work

Flames engulfed a forested area in Lugu i Lakrës on Qukës Mountain, part of the Qukës Administrative Unit in Prrenjas Municipality.

Six firefighters and a forest inspector were deployed to extinguish and contain the fire, working for nearly 12 hours. During the operation, the fire service identified four separate hotspots at different locations across the forested area.

The locations of the hotspots have raised suspicions that the fire may have been deliberately set, while the cause remains under investigation.

The fire affected an area of around 0.4 hectares and damaged approximately 30 percent of the area’s forest cover.

Following the operation, the hotspots were contained, and the flames did not spread to other parts of the mountain. No injuries were reported.

Authorities continue to monitor the area, as the hotspots could reignite beneath forest debris and dry tree trunks. Rainfall after the operation is expected to have helped extinguish them completely.
