DUI Accuses VLEN of Using Slander to Conceal Its Lack of Ethnic Legitimacy

DUI has leveled accusations against VLEN, claiming that the latter, lacking arguments to justify its own failures, has resorted to slander and political attacks against DUI.

According to DUI, Minister Goran Minçev himself stated that the Law on Fair and Adequate Representation could also be adopted through the “small Badinter” mechanism, while Izet Mexhiti has been forced to seek the Albanian opposition’s support for the law. The party says these developments clearly demonstrate that VLEN lacks ethnic legitimacy and does not have the votes required to adopt laws subject to the Badinter principle, relying instead solely on deception and slander.

DUI says that instead of explaining why the law does not provide for mandatory mechanisms, punitive measures and guarantees for achieving fair and adequate representation, VLEN is seeking to divert attention from the issue through political accusations against it.

DUI stresses that it will not vote in favor of a law that makes fair representation dependent on methodologies to be drafted by the government post festum. According to the party, defending the Ohrid Agreement and constitutional guarantees does not constitute obstruction, but is a political and national responsibility.

The response also states that it is ironic that those who today accuse DUI of obstruction are the same people who previously promised a mechanism more powerful than the Balancer, but have now presented a law weaker than it.

DUI says VLEN cannot mislead the public by portraying opposition to a flawed law as an attack on Albanian interests. According to the party, those interests are not guaranteed through propaganda, but through laws that provide concrete guarantees, legal certainty and enforceable mechanisms.
