VLEN: Ohrid Agreement Is Not the Property of DUI

VLEN has accused DUI of once again treating the Ohrid Agreement as its exclusive property. According to the party, DUI claims to be defending the document, but in reality is using it to serve its own political interests. VLEN stressed that the party that once even proclaimed itself “green” is now obstructing the implementation of one of the main pillars of the Ohrid Agreement: fair and adequate representation.

VLEN recalled that for 22 years, DUI had ministers, MPs and broad political power, meaning it could have adopted the law at any time. According to VLEN, this did not happen because of a lack of knowledge, but because DUI lacked the will to do so.

“In the absence of the law, jobs were handed out as if they were Ali Ahmeti’s personal gifts, holding one family hostage for every position. Doors were opened to those who supported DUI, while others were left out. This is precisely why it was not in their interest for fair representation to be guaranteed as a legal right,” VLEN said.

According to the party, now that the Law on Fair and Adequate Representation has been put on the table, DUI is attempting to obstruct it. VLEN claims that the Badinter mechanism, designed to protect the interests of communities, has been turned by DUI into a partisan tool against any solution that does not have its approval.

“For DUI, it does not matter what Albanians gain, but only that VLEN does not succeed. When they are in power, everything seems fine to them, but as soon as they lose their seats, they demand that even the state be brought to a standstill. This way of operating will no longer be tolerated. The Ohrid Agreement is not Ali Ahmeti’s property deed, nor is it the property of DUI or the legacy of the seat-clingers of Mala Rečica. It stems from the sacrifice of an entire people,” VLEN said.

The statement stressed that fair representation should not be viewed as charity from a political party, but as a right of citizens and an obligation of the state. VLEN concluded that DUI failed to adopt the law for 22 years and is now attempting to block it, calling for the process to continue without blackmail or obstruction.
