DUI: Fair Representation Bill Does Not Guarantee Albanians’ Rights

The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) has reacted to developments surrounding the Law on Fair and Adequate Representation, claiming that the proposal by the VLEN coalition does not ensure fair representation of Albanians in state institutions.

According to DUI, VLEN became part of the Government “without ethnic legitimacy” and has promoted this law as a historic achievement for more than two years. The opposition party believes that the proposed text does not include instruments that would guarantee the implementation of fair and adequate representation.

DUI claims that the law was sent into procedure without ethnic quotas, without institutional mechanisms for implementation, and without punitive measures against those who violate it. According to the party, such a solution does not create genuine guarantees for safeguarding the rights of Albanians.

The party also stresses that the draft law did not receive the required majority in Parliament under the Badinter principle, which, according to DUI, shows that it does not have the support of Albanian MPs.

“DUI blocked this attempt to legalise the violation of Albanians’ rights and will block it every time there is an attempt to package discrimination as law,” the party said in its response.

In conclusion, DUI said it would continue its commitment to protecting the collective rights of Albanians and respecting constitutional standards, also referring to the principles of the Ohrid Agreement.
