Day 60 of the Civic Revolt, Massive Turnout After Two Months of Protest: Rama’s Resignation Remains a Non-Negotiable Demand

The revolt against the government in Tirana reached its 60th day today, marking two months of uninterrupted mobilization in the streets of the capital. What began as limited opposition to developments in Zvërnec has expanded into a daily civic movement, now focused not only on a local issue but also on the government and the entire political class.

For 60 days, citizens have taken to the streets of the capital every afternoon. Rallies have been held outside the Prime Minister’s Office and Parliament, while protesters have also marched along Tirana’s main thoroughfares. The demands repeatedly voiced during this period have been the departure of Prime Minister Edi Rama, the holding of free elections, and a change in the way the country is governed.

Over the course of these two months, the protest has gone through several stages. The initial rallies gradually evolved into daily action, with marches through the streets of Tirana almost every evening. Tensions with the police have also been reported during this period, particularly at protests organized near Parliament.

According to the organizers, the movement is no longer linked solely to a specific cause but expresses citizens’ dissatisfaction with the government and what they describe as the political caste.

They believe that a daily presence in the streets is the only way to exert pressure on the institutions and demand political change.

On the 60th day, protesters once again gathered in Tirana. The latest rally was held outside the Prime Minister’s Office, after which participants continued their customary march through the streets of the capital.

Throughout the evening, chants of “Rama, go!”, “Resign!”, “Albania will not surrender!”, “A new Albania!” and “Revolution!” were repeated. These have now become the protest’s signature slogans.

Organizers have announced that the mobilization will continue without interruption in the coming days. According to them, the protest will continue until the publicly stated objectives are achieved, while the past 60 days do not mark its conclusion but rather the continuation of a movement aimed at maintaining constant pressure on the government and the political class.
