Day 56 of the Civic Revolt, Albanians Demand the Prime Minister’s Resignation

The protest against the government enters its 56th day today, as citizens are expected to gather again this evening in front of the Prime Minister’s Office to continue the daily demonstrations.

At the protest held a day earlier, activists and citizens responded to statements by Prime Minister Edi Rama, who, during a meeting of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, presented the “Besa” platform, seeking, as he put it, a new relationship with the citizens.

From the podium in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, protesters declared that they do not accept this message, stressing that “besa” cannot be requested after 55 days of protests and that the government, according to them, has lost the trust of the citizens.

During their speeches, activists accused the Prime Minister of trying to soften the civic reaction with new initiatives, while insisting that the protest’s objective has not changed.

They declared that they are not seeking platforms, promises, or new documents, but only the removal of Edi Rama from the leadership of the government.

In the speeches delivered before the protesters, it was emphasized that after his resignation, there must also be a reckoning with justice, as well as the creation of a transitional government that, according to them, will guarantee free elections.

At the end of the speeches, the citizens held their nightly march through the streets of Tirana, chanting “Rama ik”, “Resignation”, and “Albania does not surrender”.

This evening again, protesters are expected to return in front of the Prime Minister’s Office for the 56th consecutive day, repeating that they will not stop the demonstrations until their main demand is met: the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
