A Day After Surrounding Rama at His Office, Citizens Return Today for the 95th Protest, Demanding the Prime Minister’s Resignation

Following the tensions and clashes recorded during the 94th protest, citizens are returning today for the 95th consecutive protest against the government.

The gathering is expected to take place again on the boulevard in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, where protesters will demand Prime Minister Edi Rama’s removal from office.

Their demands continue to focus on Rama’s resignation, a change in the political class and the establishment of a transitional government with a 12-month mandate.

The 94th day ended in clashes and police escorts

Tuesday’s protest, on September 1, marked an escalation of the situation. After gathering in Skanderbeg Square, protesters marched towards the Prime Minister’s Office. Later, some of them moved to the alleys behind the building after receiving information that Prime Minister Edi Rama was in his office.

Protesters attempted to move closer to the Prime Minister’s Office building, while police intervened by reinforcing the security cordon. The situation became tense, and physical clashes took place between protesters and police forces.

Citizens were also escorted by police during the protest. More than 10 people were taken to Police Stations No. 1 and No. 3. Following the escorts, some protesters moved towards Police Station No. 3, demanding their release.

Today’s protest, September 2, thus marks the 95th day of civic mobilisation, while the main demand remains unchanged: the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
