Constitutional Court publishes full ruling: President must be elected by October 6

The Constitutional Court has published the full ruling on the PDK’s requests concerning the constitution of the Assembly and the formation of Kosovo’s government.

According to the ruling, the Assembly was constituted after the constitutional 30-day deadline had passed. The same ruling stipulates that the election of the President of the Republic of Kosovo must be completed by October 6, 2026.

On page 51 of the document, the Court clarifies that the 60-day deadline for the election of the President began on August 8, 2026.

According to the Constitutional Court’s finding, this deadline expires on October 6, 2026.

“Therefore, taking into account the necessity of the functioning of the constitutional institutions, namely the continuation of the functioning of the institution of the President, with a full constitutional mandate and authority, the Court considers that the Assembly must, by October 6,” the ruling states.
