Confrontation at a café with Endrit Shabani/ Young people insult him, People’s Advocate: They filmed me while I was with my parents

An incident was recorded at a café, where several young people approached the People’s Advocate, Endrit Shabani, while he was having coffee in the company of his parents.

In the video published on social media, the young people can be heard insulting Shabani, telling him: “Hey, little clown, aren’t you ashamed?” and “You’re a traitor, you deserve it.”

Young man: Hey, little clown, aren’t you ashamed?

Endri Shabani: You’re making a video for Facebook; I’m here with my parents.

Young man: Aren’t you ashamed? You’re a traitor, you deserve it, you’re a traitor.

After the footage was published, Endrit Shabani responded by stating that he had been verbally insulted by an activist from the “Albania Becomes” Party. According to him, the incident took place near the café where he was having coffee with his parents.

Shabani said he had known the person who approached him with a camera since high school. He revealed that the man was Mevlan Mata, whom he identified as an activist of the “Albania Becomes” Party.

The People’s Advocate linked the episode to a confrontation that began a day earlier, following the publication of a video in which he was seen greeting two MPs.

“Yesterday, the chairman of the Albania Becomes Party attacked me again (as he has been doing for a year now), manipulating a video in which I was greeting two MPs. As People’s Advocate, I report to Parliament every month and have an institutional duty to cooperate with all MPs, regardless of party affiliation.

Even before this, however, I have never believed that an opponent should be treated as an enemy, to the point of refusing to shake their hand. I am convinced that Adriatik, who himself appeared in a video laughing with the same MPs, knows this very well.

Today, Mevlan Mata, an activist of the same party, came with a cameraman to the building where I live to film me and insult me while I was having coffee with my parents. I have known Mevlan since high school, and I am sorry that he feels compelled to show such signs of loyalty to the party.

I accept criticism of me, since I have chosen to hold public office. But my elderly parents do not deserve to be involved in such scenes, because they are not part of any political debate and bear no public responsibility. I firmly believe that the home and family of every Albanian should remain inviolable, which is why this boundary must not be crossed,” Shabani said.
