Conflict at café ends with 59-year-old injured; suspected perpetrator arrested

A conflict over trivial motives at a café ended with a 59-year-old man being injured with a sharp object. Mirjan Dedja struck Roland Beqiraj with a sharp object, while the latter is under medical care and out of danger.

Police arrested the suspected perpetrator immediately after the incident. The injured man was also taken into custody after he refused to disclose the circumstances of the incident and is suspected of attempting to conceal it.

According to the police statement, Elbasan police services were mobilised as soon as they were informed that a 59-year-old man, suspected of having been injured with a sharp object, had sought medical assistance at the regional hospital.

Immediate investigative and operational actions led to the identification, capture and arrest of the suspected perpetrator, citizen M. A., 43, a resident of Elbasan.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident took place at a café in the “Luigj Gurakuqi” neighbourhood. During a conflict over trivial motives, M. A. is suspected of injuring citizen R. B., 59, with a sharp object.

Police also arrested R. B. in flagrante delicto on charges of “Failure to Report a Crime”, after he refused to provide explanations regarding the incident.

The sharp object, a knife suspected of having been used during the incident, was seized as material evidence.

The case file was referred to the Prosecutor’s Office at the Elbasan Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction, which will continue further proceedings.
