After the hearing at the Special Court, Kujtim Cakrani, the lawyer for Ilir Meta, chairman of the Freedom Party, told the media that Meta has requested that Prime Minister Edi Rama be called as a witness in the cases weighing against him.

“We are not calling Edi Rama, but the head of the Socialist Party and the prime minister. We have requested Rama ever since the charges were communicated to Meta, and we will see Kryemadhi’s submissions, if they are made available to us. We have proceeded with an ordinary trial, we asked for Mr. Rama to come and testify, and we will see whether the court will accept it,” he said.

Cakrani also spoke about the clash between former spouses Meta and Kryemadhi, stressing that Meta’s tension is linked to the fact that Monika Kryemadhi’s cousin is mentioned 327 times in the case file, whom the former president considers a conspirator.

“We should not aggravate it as if it were a quarrel; it was a moment when Shatku was mentioned, a key witness. These things arose because if Shatku had been called, they would not have had this conflict. Shatku is mentioned 327 times in the file and has not been called, and this seems like there is a plot. Twenty months and 2 days have passed and it is still not known why he is being held.

There was tension and Meta raised his voice. Shatku is Kryemadhi’s cousin and Meta has his own opinion; he thinks there has been a plot. Neither Kryemadhi nor Shatku have carried out plots; McGonigal, Dumani and Kim did.
