Hearing begins at the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime/ Meta and Kryemadhi present in the courtroom, Freedom Party leader: Not all case files have been made available to me

Today’s next court hearing is being held at the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime against Freedom Party leader Ilir Meta and former MP Monika Kryemadhi. Meta and Kryemadhi are both present in the courtroom, while Ilir Meta has chosen to be represented by lawyer Bujar Musta, after his “split” with lawyer Kujtim Cakrani.

“Not all the case files have been made available to me, with the aim of ensuring the process moves forward as quickly as possible,” Meta declared during the hearing.

As she arrived outside the premises of the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime, Kryemadhi spoke briefly to journalists, saying that today she would speak about the manipulations made in the video messages.

“Today is the day of truth. I have the defense and I will break down all the manipulations that have been made in the video messages. We will notify you as soon as the process begins. I invite you to be there,” Monika Kryemadhi said.

Ilir Meta was arrested on October 21, 2024. He and MP Kryemadhi are suspected of having, by collaborating with each other and with other state officials, in several episodes beginning 15 years ago, used their state and political positions to favor private companies, as well as in other activities involving lobbying in the US and the buying and selling of homes in exchange for obtaining considerable sums of money, which they allegedly tried to conceal by not declaring them to ILDKPI and the CEC.

Specifically, MP Kryemadhi was being investigated by SPAK on three charges: money laundering, corruption and failure to declare income. On October 23, the court upheld the measure of “obligation to appear before the judicial police” against Kryemadhi, for the same criminal offenses, as well as against suspect Ema Çoku, for money laundering.

Meanwhile, for Piro Xhixho, who is under investigation for passive corruption, the security measure was changed from “house arrest” to “obligation to appear before the judicial police.” All three suspects under the security measure of “obligation to appear” are ordered to report once a month to the offices of SPAK’s Judicial Police.
