Bulqiza, two wildfires still active; aerial intervention requested

For days, two wildfires have continued to burn in the territory of Bulqiza. One is located in the area above the village of Vajkal, in the Fushë-Bulqizë Administrative Unit, while the other has broken out on Mount Lepur, near Bulqiza’s New Town.

The fire above Vajkal has not been extinguished for more than 10 days. Bulqiza Municipality employees and Civil Emergency structures have been deployed on the ground and are trying to bring the flames under control.

The teams’ work is being hampered by the rugged mountainous terrain, while the high temperatures are making intervention from the ground even more difficult.

The greatest concern is the situation on Mount Lepur, as the fire is advancing toward Bulqiza’s New Town. Given the difficulties of intervening from the ground, the use of aircraft is being requested to stop the flames from spreading and prevent them from approaching populated areas.
