The Union of Independent Trade Unions of Kosovo (BSPK) has invited its member unions, public- and private-sector employees, and their families to join the “March for Freedom.” The event will be held tomorrow, September 12, starting at 14:00, in Skanderbeg Square in Pristina.

In a statement to the media, BSPK explained that the march does not have a contemporary political character, but is connected to historical memory and the preservation of social dignity.
The union considers the Kosovo Liberation Army’s (KLA) war to have been inseparable from the resistance of workers, miners, teachers, students, and Kosovo families during the period of repression.
“Within this historical narrative, the Student Movement of October 1, 1997, holds particular importance. That day, students of the University of Pristina protested peacefully for their right to education, but were met with violence by the Serbian police. Several months later, many of them joined the KLA, while some never returned to the lecture halls. For this reason, the student, the worker, and the fighter are part of the same continuum of resistance for freedom,” the statement said.
BSPK announced that it supports the rule of law and the right to a fair and impartial trial. However, it stressed that justice must be based solely on evidence and individual responsibility, without changing the liberating character of the KLA’s war.
The organization asked the unions and regional offices to contribute to coordinating participation, while appealing for the march to be conducted calmly, orderly, and with dignity.
“Kosovo’s workers will be present in the square not as representatives of any political side, but as part of a people that did not win its freedom as a gift,” BSPK said in its statement.
