Bekim Sejdiu Accepts Presidential Candidacy: I Will Serve the Citizens and the Republic of Kosovo

Bekim Sejdiu has accepted the proposal to be the consensus candidate for president of the Republic of Kosovo, a nominee backed by the Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo following intensive negotiations held over the past few days.

He said he was honored by the agreement between the two political entities on his candidacy and thanked their representatives for their trust.

Sejdiu said the negotiations between the Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo were aimed at finding a non-partisan candidate for the position of President of the Republic of Kosovo.

“During these negotiations, the two parties reached an agreement on my name as a presidential candidate. In any case, this makes me feel honored. The trust placed in me by the representatives of the two political parties — whom I take this opportunity to publicly thank — is a great trust and a great honor,” he declared.

Although his ambition, according to him, had been focused mainly on academic and professional pursuits, Sejdiu said he had accepted the candidacy with the responsibility and significance of the president’s office in mind.

“Fully aware of the burden and responsibility that come with the office of President, as well as the current political context of the Republic of Kosovo, I have placed myself at the service of the Republic of Kosovo, its citizens and our state, in order to serve them with dedication, as I have always done, wherever and whenever I have the opportunity, within my capabilities,” Sejdiu said.

He also recalled that the president is elected through a process of a political nature and a constitutional procedure in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo.
