After the fierce storm: 117 cars damaged, 10 injured, and state buildings affected

After the powerful storm passed, police forces remain present on the ground and are managing all reports of the aftermath, in close cooperation with other responsible authorities. The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized that operations are ongoing to ensure citizen safety, repair damages, and restore normal traffic circulation and public services.

The hardest-hit part was the Skopje region, where the Internal Affairs Sector recorded the most severe effects up until 10:00 PM last night. The toll included 117 damaged cars, 35 destroyed roofs, 189 fallen trees, seven traffic lights out of service, five fires, and 10 people who sustained injuries.

The furious wind did not spare several state buildings and facilities of vital importance either. Damages were observed at the building of the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption, at the “Vila Vodno” complex, and at the Police Base of Petrovec Airport. Also affected were the headquarters of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, as well as the “Nova Makedonija” building.

As for other cities, in Kumanovo, nine vehicles and three damaged roofs were reported. The Tetovo area recorded five incidents, of which three were damaged cars and two were damaged roof structures, while Gostivar reported neither damages nor injuries. In Veles, two cars were damaged due to falling trees, while in Shtip the number of affected cars reached 14, alongside six destroyed roofs.

The Strumica district faced strong winds that knocked down high-voltage poles in the villages of Dobroshinc and Gradosorc, which also led to power outages in the village of Svidovica. On the other hand, the Manastir area did not experience significant consequences, with the exception of a powerful but passing wind in Makedonski Brod, which fortunately caused no property damage.

In conclusion, the Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that police teams are still on the ground, continuing their work to clear the traces of the storm and protect the safety of citizens.
