Implementation of the system for collecting fines automatically issued by “Safe City” to foreign nationals has begun at the Tabanoc border crossing. Within a few days, the same procedure is expected to be extended to other border crossings, including Blace.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs is preparing to make the system operational at the other crossings as well, so that foreign nationals who have committed traffic violations within the country can pay their fines when leaving the state. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has not yet published the exact number of fines paid at Tabanoc from August 19 until today, but the figure has exceeded 1,000.
To simplify the payment process, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has activated the “Safe City” application, which can be accessed at safecountry.mvr.gov.mk.
The application is intended exclusively for foreign nationals, specifically drivers and owners of vehicles bearing foreign license plates.
Through the application, foreign users can be notified of traffic violations, obtain the report on the violation and pay the fine electronically. The driver must photograph their passport and enter the vehicle’s license plate number.
Ministry of Internal Affairs spokesperson Goce Andreevski explained that, after accessing the application, drivers must photograph or scan their passport and register the vehicle or vehicles they use in our country. According to him, this enables foreign drivers who commit traffic violations anywhere in the country to be informed in a timely manner and settle their obligations without having to stop later at border crossings.
The stopping of vehicles for the payment of fines caused kilometer-long queues at the Tabanoc border crossing for two consecutive days. Waiting times of up to two hours were also recorded at the payment counters, while foreign nationals complained that the procedure was complicated and that the application was not working properly.
In a related report on foreign nationals queuing at Tabanoc to pay their fines, Toshkovski stated that no one can escape “Safe City.”
Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski announced yesterday that smart cameras had been installed at the border crossing. They identify vehicles registered by the “Safe City” system and alert police officers.
