18-year-old in Britain who hit 84-year-old and fled: “I don’t know what I hit, I’m eating pizza”

An 18-year-old in Britain has been sentenced to three years in prison after hitting an 84-year-old pedestrian with his vehicle, leaving him seriously injured and fleeing without offering assistance.

The ruling was handed down by Durham Crown Court, which found Sonny Horsfall guilty of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving without a licence or insurance, and leaving the scene of an accident. In addition to the prison sentence, he was banned from driving for four years.

The incident occurred on the evening of 22 April in Redcar, North Yorkshire. According to the investigation, Horsfall lost control of a recently purchased Audi A4, mounted the pavement and struck 84-year-old Eddie, who was returning home.

Security cameras captured the moment the car left the road and hit the pedestrian, while the driver fled immediately after the collision. Prosecutors explained that the young man did not have a driving licence, was disqualified from driving, and the Audi was uninsured.

During the investigation, videos were also found on his phone showing Horsfall driving at high speed, carrying out dangerous overtaking manoeuvres and running red lights.

In one of the recordings, he can be heard saying: “I’ve just bought this beast,” while in another video he says: “To hell with the red light.”

Two hours after the accident, the 18-year-old returned home, ordered pizza and sent voice messages to friends on Snapchat. In one of them, he said: “I don’t know what I hit… I’m eating pizza,” while in another he admitted that he believed he may have seriously injured or killed someone.

As a result of the collision, the 84-year-old suffered multiple fractures to his pelvis, back and right leg. He spent several days in intensive care and, despite undergoing surgery, continues to face major mobility difficulties, uses walking aids and suffers from constant pain.
