A van veered off the road and plunged into a ravine in northern Peru, killing at least 14 people and injuring five others, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred in the Ciudad de Dios area, around 800 kilometres north of Lima. The news was announced by Ricardo Chillon, an official from the municipality of San Juan.

“Fourteen deaths and five injuries were recorded in this accident after the vehicle fell from a cliff,” Chillon told AFP.
Nineteen passengers were travelling in the vehicle. Those killed included the van driver and a child.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the causes of the accident, while the five injured people were taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Road accidents are frequent in Peru, where traffic safety is affected by damaged road infrastructure, inadequate controls, speeding and other factors.
Official data show that more than 3,000 people died in road accidents in Peru last year.
