Prime Minister Edi Rama visited the Department of Journalism at the University of Tirana, where he held a special conversation with two students from this faculty. During the interview, Rama focused on the issue of closing TikTok in Albania, explaining the reasons behind this decision and the next steps.
“We have raised our concerns and, for the moment, we have no other choice but to close TikTok,” Rama declared. He stressed that the Albanian authorities are in dialogue with the platform, adding that “they have not been indifferent to our concerns.”
The Prime Minister explained that a preliminary agreement has been reached with TikTok to address these concerns within a “reasonable period of time.” He promised that the decision to close the application will be reviewed once the platform presents suggestions to guarantee security and avoid risks for users.
“For the moment, we have no other choice but to close TikTok, but we are in dialogue with them. “We have raised our concerns and they have not been indifferent to them. We have agreed that at a reasonable time they will present us with some suggestions to address these concerns,” he said.
