Zajkova: Open lists give citizens the freedom to choose; they are not a betrayal

Monika Zajkova, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), said that the party she leads is fully independent, has a clear ideological identity and remains consistent in its positions. She said the LDP does not serve any party headquarters, but holds talks with all stakeholders, including businesses, non-governmental organizations and citizens, with the aim of developing solutions that directly improve living standards, such as eliminating bank fees.

Zajkova stressed that the LDP remains committed to calling for a single electoral district and the introduction of open lists. She said it is time to end party leaders’ monopoly on selecting their people for parliamentary lists and give citizens the opportunity to choose their representatives directly.

“The LDP does not want to interfere in other parties, has no hidden motive to do so, and is not in a position to do so. What happens in other political camps is their responsibility. Meanwhile, it is entirely normal for us to communicate with everyone—with both parties, the non-governmental sector and businesses—because the policies we develop are aimed at citizens. If some people consider discussing open lists or lobbying for an alliance that would make these solutions possible to be the greatest sin and betrayal, then we have no problem with them calling us ‘traitors’,” she said.

The LDP leader also noted that mass protests in Europe and the region are growing in scale precisely because governments have long ignored concrete problems and preferred to view reality through “rose-colored glasses.” Injustice, she said, causes anger to build up.
