Witkoff and Kushner Expected to Visit Kyiv for the First Time in Bid to Revive Peace Talks

Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, special envoys of US President Donald Trump, may travel to Kyiv for the first time as part of an initiative to give fresh impetus to diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with Axios that the two officials could arrive in the Ukrainian capital within the next two weeks. According to him, the potential visit is one of the concrete outcomes of his latest meeting with the US president.

The Financial Times, citing sources familiar with the White House discussions, reported that such a trip was discussed during the meeting between Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky.

For the authorities in Kyiv, the arrival of Witkoff and Kushner is seen as an opportunity to deepen relations with the US administration, as well as to secure new military support from the United States during Trump’s second term.

If the trip is confirmed, it will mark the two US envoys’ first visit to Ukraine, after they previously made several trips to Russia.

Zelensky said that during the meetings, he intends to discuss the possibility of resuming peace negotiations with Russia. He also wants Witkoff and Kushner to see firsthand the situation on the ground and the damage caused by the war.

According to the Ukrainian head of state, both envoys support establishing a ceasefire that would pave the way for a diplomatic process. However, Zelensky expressed doubts that Russian President Vladimir Putin would agree to halt the fighting.

Despite his skepticism, the Ukrainian president reiterated that Ukraine is ready to return to the negotiating table with Russia, with the aim of ending the conflict that has continued for more than four years.
