Vlora Prefecture publishes fire report for Himara: 5 homes burned and 36 people evacuated

Vlora Prefecture has released the official report on the fire that engulfed Potam, in Himara’s “1 Maj” neighborhood, detailing the damage, the number of people evacuated and the operation carried out to extinguish the flames.

The fire started on September 4, at around 7:20 p.m., in an area of shrubs and olive groves, and was completely extinguished on September 5, at around 4:30 p.m.

The damage included two occupied homes and three unoccupied homes, which were burned, as well as a considerable area of olive trees. The fire also damaged electricity and water supply lines.

During the incident, 36 people were temporarily evacuated. A female citizen who suffered smoke inhalation received medical treatment and was later discharged from the hospital.

The Armed Forces, MZSH, the police, the fire service, municipal structures, volunteers and other support services were mobilized to tackle the fire. Numerous personnel and vehicles were deployed for the operation, including two Cougar helicopters.

According to data from Vlora Prefecture, the fire is suspected to have been deliberately started. Three citizens suspected of arson have been taken in for questioning in connection with the incident.

Following the work of the OSHEE Vlora and SHAUK Vlora teams, electricity and water supplies were restored during the afternoon for affected subscribers.
