Vjosa Osmani praises Bekim Sejdiu after his withdrawal from the presidential race

Democratic League of Kosovo MP Vjosa Osmani has expressed her gratitude to Bekim Sejdiu for his willingness to take on the duties of president of the Republic of Kosovo.

In a public statement, Osmani praised the way Sejdiu navigated the entire political process, emphasizing that, in her view, personal interests were often placed ahead of institutional ones during this journey.

“Bekim Sejdiu deserves our thanks. Not only for his willingness to serve the country, but also for the way he handled a process in which personal interests were often placed above institutional ones,” Osmani wrote.

She said that the failure to elect a president was not the only loss, arguing that Kosovo had also missed an opportunity to prove that it could build political consensus around people with knowledge, integrity and dignity.

“Perhaps this is precisely where our greatest loss lies: not only did we fail to elect a president, but we also missed another opportunity to show that in Kosovo we can build consensus around people with knowledge, integrity and dignity,” she said.

Osmani focused particularly on Sejdiu’s conduct throughout the process. According to her, politics, campaigns and elections are temporary, while the way a person behaves in moments of trial remains important.

“Politics passes. Campaigns end. Elections are repeated. But the way a person behaves when put to the test remains,” Osmani wrote.

Concluding her statement, she stressed that Sejdiu had left behind evidence of his character, even though his political effort was not crowned with success.

“Therefore, thank you, Bekim, for your willingness to serve the Republic and for the dignity you showed to the very end,” Osmani concluded.
