A major accident occurred during the “Athens Flying Week” air show, being held in Tanagra, Greece, where a two-seat F-4 Phantom fighter jet crashed.

So far, the fate of the two pilots who were on board the aircraft is unknown.

According to neighboring media outlets, the aircraft crashed shortly after beginning its demonstration, while hundreds of people were watching the show from close range.

According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the aircraft appeared to be emitting smoke before it crashed. Witnesses also reported that the aircraft suddenly began losing altitude before hitting the ground.

According to initial information, the aircraft split into two parts, while fires broke out at two different locations. A firefighting helicopter intervened, dropping water to extinguish the flames.

People in the area were overcome by panic and shock, while the event organizers immediately began evacuating the site.

Meanwhile, because of the accident, Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias interrupted his program at the Thessaloniki International Fair (DETH) and urgently departed for Athens.
