Video/ Two killed and 13 injured in minibus explosion near Damascus

An explosion on a passenger minibus in Jaramana, a suburb of Damascus, left two people dead and 13 injured on Thursday evening, according to Syrian state media.

Al-Ikhbariya initially reported that the explosion had occurred inside the vehicle and caused deaths and injuries, without specifying their number or clarifying the circumstances of the incident.

The toll was later confirmed by the state-run SANA news agency. Citing the Directorate of Referrals, Ambulances and Emergencies at the Ministry of Health, it reported that two people had died, while 13 others were injured.

Ambulances, Civil Defense, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and forensic teams from the Ministry of Interior arrived at the scene of the explosion. The damaged vehicle was removed by crane so that technical inspections and investigations could continue.

As of the time of reporting, Syria’s Ministry of Interior and security agencies had not issued an official statement. No group had claimed responsibility for the incident.

In photographs and videos shared on social media, the minibus appears to have been heavily damaged, while pieces of it can be seen scattered along the road and near residential buildings.

It is still unclear what caused the explosion. Al-Ikhbariya reported that the incident occurred shortly after Jaramana’s sheikhs and community leaders issued a statement expressing their support for Syria’s unity and opposing any calls that could threaten political peace in the country.
