Footage has been released of the tense episode in which Vllaznia president Alban Xhaferi punches assistant referee Ergys Spahiu.

The incident occurred after the end of the match between Elbasani and Vllaznia, as Spahiu was heading toward the tunnel leading to the dressing rooms. At that moment, he came face to face with the number one of the Shkodra club, who struck him, while security intervened immediately to prevent escalation.

Xhaferi’s reaction appears to have caught the assistant referee off guard. As soon as the blow landed, the security guard moved to protect Spahiu and calm the situation.

The decision of the Disciplinary Commission at the Albanian Football Federation is now awaited over this unprecedented scandal. Heavy disciplinary sanctions threaten both Xhaferi and coach Edi Martini, the latter for the gesture made on the pitch, where he formed the VAR sign with his hands.
