Vance Gives Details from Talks in Switzerland: Iran Accepts Return of Nuclear Inspectors, US to Release Frozen Funds

“Our goal remains the achievement of a final agreement and a long-term solution.

At this stage, I believe significant progress has been made and this development should be welcomed by everyone, especially given the conditions in which nuclear inspectors will begin their work”: this is what U.S. Vice President JD Vance told reporters in Switzerland, saying that Iran has accepted the return of specialists from the International Atomic Energy Agency.

“This is probably the point that has excited us Americans the most. Iran has agreed to bring back IAEA inspectors to its territory. This is a great success for the American people and is the first step toward permanent nuclear disarmament, or a major move toward the final shutdown of a nuclear weapons program in Iran,” said U.S. Vice President JD Vance.

He added that yesterday was extremely positive. “Yesterday was a very, very positive day. We made great progress and achieved exactly what we wanted to do,” Vance said, although contradictory statements again came from Iran. Foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei acknowledged that the Iranian side held a “brief discussion” with the United States about the nuclear program during the meetings in Switzerland, but insisted that negotiations on this issue have not yet begun.

In his remarks, Vance also emphasized that he will return to the United States. “I can’t stay here for 60 days,” he said, adding that at least the foundations for an agreement have been laid. “We haven’t built the house, but we have laid strong foundations,” said the number two in the U.S. administration.
