Usha Vance loses her balance while stepping down from helicopter with baby, soldiers remain unresponsive

The arrival of Usha Vance, the wife of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, at Joint Base Andrews was marked by an awkward moment. The family was preparing to travel to Alaska.

As she was stepping down from the helicopter that had brought her to the military base, Usha Vance stumbled. She was carrying her newborn son, Alec, in a baby carrier.

The second lady of the United States managed to grab the railing and avoided falling. Neither she nor the baby, who was in the carrier, suffered any injuries.

The lack of reaction from four soldiers standing near the stairs drew the attention of those present, as none of them approached to help Usha Vance or her son.

A few seconds later, J.D. Vance also emerged from the same helicopter. The vice president was carrying the couple’s daughter, four-year-old Mirabelle, in his arms.

The Vance family is in Alaska as part of J.D. Vance’s efforts to support Senator Dan Sullivan’s election campaign.

Before the trip, J.D. Vance had announced that Usha and some of the children would accompany him. He emphasized that this was his wife’s 50th visit to a U.S. state.

“As you probably saw, Usha and some of the kids are going to come with us. This is Usha’s 50th state, so we’re going to take a nine-week-old baby on a 7.5-hour flight to Alaska,” the U.S. vice president said.

In a humorous tone, he added that if he appeared “stressed and worried” during the speech, the reason would be traveling with the baby.

Alec, the couple’s fourth child, was born on July 19 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland. According to the text, he is the first child born to a sitting vice president since 1870.
