Two tankers attacked within about 24 hours in the Strait of Hormuz, two sailors injured

The Strait of Hormuz has seen a new escalation of tensions after two tankers were attacked over a period of roughly 24 hours. In one of the incidents, two crew members suffered minor injuries, while the vessel is reportedly managed by a company headquartered in Greece.

A report by Seatrade Maritime News cited the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, UKMTO, as saying that a tanker, while sailing toward the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, was struck by an unidentified missile on September 21.

Despite being hit, the vessel continued under its own power and proceeded without assistance to the next port on its route. Authorities have so far reported no water pollution or other environmental consequences.

Maritime security company Vanguard Tech identified the vessel as La Stephanie. Meanwhile, data from Pole Star Global indicate that the vessel most closely matching the available information is LR Stephanie, which sails under the flag of the Isle of Man, has a capacity of 72,825 dwt and is managed by Universal Tankers.
