Tensions Escalate in the Middle East as Unidentified Projectile Hits Merchant Vessel in the Strait of Hormuz

A merchant vessel was hit by a projectile of unknown origin in the Strait of Hormuz, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency announced.

The incident was recorded approximately 37 kilometers northeast of the city of Al Khasab, Oman. Authorities have so far reported no injuries or major damage to the vessel, while the causes and circumstances of the incident remain unclear.

The strike occurred at a time when the situation in the Persian Gulf remains tense. U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that “new negotiations with Iran are underway,” but Tehran denies that talks with the United States have begun.

Iranian officials say diplomatic communication is taking place only with Oman and aims to secure safe passage for vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important maritime corridors for international oil transport.

The latest incident has further increased concerns about maritime security in the area. According to international sources, several Gulf states are considering the construction of a new energy pipeline through which oil could be exported without passing through the Strait of Hormuz in the event of a closure or escalation of the conflict.
