Two killed in shooting at private school in Germany, suspected attacker arrested

A shooting at a private school in Brandenburg, Germany, claimed the lives of two people.

The shooting took place on the campus of the Docemus private schools in Neu Zittau, part of the Oder-Spree district. Police have arrested the person suspected of carrying out the attack.

Local media report that the victims are an 18-year-old female student and a 30-year-old man. The young woman is suspected of having previously been in a relationship with the suspected attacker, a 19-year-old. Meanwhile, the 30-year-old is suspected of having been killed while trying to intervene to stop the attacker.

After reports of an armed person in the area, police and emergency teams arrived at the scene at around 13:45. Numerous police units, as well as firefighters and ambulances, were deployed in the area, while the assistance of two rescue helicopters was also requested.

The school premises were surrounded and secured by the authorities, while the police operation continued in the area. Barriers were placed in the institution’s courtyard to protect the students.

The authorities have not yet clarified all the circumstances of the incident. Investigators are verifying the motive for the attack and the nature of the relationship between the 19-year-old and the 18-year-old student.
