Trump considers declaring an end to the war with Iran as Pentagon strengthens regional presence

US President Donald Trump is considering formally declaring an end to the war with Iran, while the Pentagon is increasing US military capabilities in the Middle East.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the issue has been discussed privately between Trump and his senior advisers. According to the report, the president supports the idea of declaring the war over because he believes economic pressure could force Tehran to abandon its nuclear program or face a severe domestic crisis.

At the same time, the US administration is continuing its campaign of economic pressure against Iran. Last week, the US launched Operation “Economic Pariah,” which includes measures targeting key sectors of the Iranian economy, such as oil, maritime transport, aviation, gold, technology and the digital economy.

However, while political circles are considering the possibility of ending the conflict, the Pentagon is preparing for a confrontation that could last longer. According to the WSJ, the US military has begun expanding its deployments in the region, signaling that fighting could continue into next year.

The United States currently has around 50,000 troops and 19 warships deployed in the Middle East. The force includes two aircraft carriers and 13 guided-missile destroyers.

This military presence is intended to give President Trump greater room to maneuver and more response options, depending on developments on the ground.

Thus, while the White House is discussing formally ending the war, the Pentagon’s preparations indicate that Washington is also factoring in the possibility of a prolonged conflict with Iran.
