Trump calls for stronger AI security as US companies pledge self-regulation and infrastructure expansion

US President Donald Trump hosted leaders of major technology companies at the White House to discuss the future and security of artificial intelligence.

Representatives of OpenAI, Google, Meta, Anthropic, Nvidia and SpaceX attended the meeting. The summit produced three key developments.

AI companies’ self-regulation

The companies signed an agreement to ensure the safety of artificial intelligence systems. Under the agreement, they pledge to oversee the technology, address problems swiftly and work with independent auditors.

Trump described the agreement as a kind of “constitution” for AI safety and announced that a board would also be set up to oversee it.

However, AI governance experts have questioned the agreement, saying it does not clarify responsibilities or the consequences that would be imposed in the event of violations.

More data centers

The US president reaffirmed his support for building and expanding data centers in the United States, which are considered essential to advancing AI. The construction of these facilities has sparked debate over how much energy they consume and their impact on local communities.

Jensen Huang, head of Nvidia, called data centers “factories of superintelligence,” saying they are contributing to the reindustrialization of the United States.

From “artificial intelligence” to “superintelligence”

Trump also signed an executive order calling for the terms “SI” and “Superintelligence” to be used in official US government communications instead of “artificial intelligence.”

The document argues that the technology is entering a new phase in which its capabilities exceed the traditional understanding of artificial intelligence. Although some technology industry leaders have begun using the term, other experts remain skeptical that “Superintelligence” will become widely used.

The summit showed that the Trump administration is putting AI development at the center of US strategy, focusing on security, infrastructure and competition in the most advanced technologies.
