Trajkov in Brussels: EU enlargement, a geopolitical and strategic priority for Macedonia

Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Viktorija Trajkov, is on a working visit to Brussels. During a roundtable held last night by the Office for Europe in Brussels of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, with the presence of high-level participants, she assessed that European Union enlargement is today a geopolitical necessity and among the Union’s most important strategic tools.

“Integration into the European Union remains the main strategic priority for Macedonia, while the Reform Agenda holds a central place in the Government’s policies. Progress in the rule of law, public administration, economic governance, digital transformation, and institutional transparency constitutes an investment for the future of the state and for better conditions for citizens,” Trajkov stated.

She also stressed that enlargement should be merit-based, a credible and predictable process. According to her, both candidate countries and the European Union must continuously fulfill their obligations.

Trajkov assessed that a democratic, stable, and prosperous Western Balkans means a more secure and stronger European Union.

The event was also attended by Gunter Krichbaum, Minister of State for Europe at the German Federal Foreign Office, German MEP Michael Gahler, as well as a member of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs./Telegrafi/
