Tragic death in Perugia/ 55-year-old musician found dead in hotel, colleague in critical condition. Initial suspicions about the cause of the incident

A 55-year-old artist of Sicilian origin has died inside a hotel room in the heart of Perugia, while the colleague accompanying him was rushed to hospital in serious condition.

Initial investigations by the Italian Carabinieri are focusing on the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning, Italian media report.

Suspicion arose when other members of the musical group, who were traveling with them, discovered that the two instrumentalists had not shown up for the scheduled concert at the Sala dei Notari. They had been expected to take the stage alongside around 40 other colleagues.

Authorities have begun inspecting the hotel, and one of the main leads in the investigation concerns a utility room next to the two musicians’ room, where a boiler is installed. Investigators are examining whether a technical fault or a gas leak from that area may have caused the tragedy.

The musician who survived the incident is receiving specialized medical treatment, while investigation teams continue working to fully establish the causes of this serious event.
