A serious road accident in Hungary has claimed at least 12 lives and left 10 people seriously injured after a bus with Polish license plates veered off course and crashed into a ditch.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening on the M3 motorway, near the town of Mezőkeresztés, in eastern Hungary. The vehicle ended up overturned after leaving the road and falling into the roadside ditch.
Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar confirmed the death toll in a post published on Facebook on Sunday morning.
Magyar wrote that 12 people had lost their lives and at least 10 others had suffered serious injuries overnight, when the bus with Polish license plates ended up in a ditch on the M3 motorway. He expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and thanked the teams involved in the rescue operation.
Local media reported that 57 people were on the bus at the time of the accident, while the vehicle was being driven by two drivers.
Emergency teams worked throughout the night to remove passengers from the overturned bus. Meanwhile, authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the causes of the incident.
