Tragedy in Greece: Two people die after fire engulfs their home in a forested area

A tragic incident has occurred in northern Greece, where a major fire that swept through a forested area claimed the lives of two people. The fire brigade said that during the operation to extinguish the blaze, they found the body of a man near the home, while another lifeless body was discovered inside the burned house.

The fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon in a scrubland area near the village of Liti, around 25 kilometers from Thessaloniki. Fueled by strong winds, the flames spread rapidly, surrounding and destroying a house in the settlement.

In the same area, rescue teams managed to pull out a woman alive. She had suffered burns and is receiving the necessary medical treatment.

Greek authorities had ordered residents of the area to evacuate immediately to a nearby playground to shelter from the danger of the flames.

According to experts, Greece, like other countries in the Mediterranean region, is facing an increasingly high risk of massive fires.

Global warming and increasingly hot and dry summers are making these natural phenomena more frequent and more destructive for the environment and human life.
