Today marks the 119th day of protests as citizens return to the square: Rama resign!

Protests against the government and Prime Minister Edi Rama continue today, marking the 119th day of civic resistance. Yesterday’s protest featured speeches, banners and chants against the government, while at the end of the gathering, citizens began marching through the streets of Tirana. During the march, chants were heard including “Rama in prison,” “Arrest Rama and Balluku” and “Resignation.”

On the 118th day, protesters continued to express their opposition to the government through banners and slogans. One read: “With SHISH and the police, you cannot maintain this tyranny,” while another addressed SPAK over the situation in healthcare: “Healthcare has fallen, the fiction has been exposed! SPAK, do not stand by—act and punish the thieves for us.”

During yesterday’s protest, activists and citizens repeated their demands for the prime minister’s departure, while some of them further escalated the rhetoric of the protest.

Activist Edison Lika declared that, in his view, “the time for resignation is over” and that protesters’ chant would now be “Arrest Rama.”

Today, too, citizens are expected to gather once again in the square, as the protest continues with speeches, banners and a march through the streets of the capital.
